Please follow the link to see it in action, it looks even more amazing here.

The rainbow worm was created with D3 (Data Driven Documentation) and is reminiscent to peristalsis. I have used D3 in several of my projects and it truly is a powerful tool.  “D3 is a JavaScript library for manipulating documents based on data. D3 helps you bring data to life using HTML, SVG, and CSS. D3’s emphasis on web standards gives you the full capabilities of modern browsers without tying yourself to a proprietary framework, combining powerful visualization components and a data-driven approach to DOM manipulation.”

D3 allows remarkable exploration with its tools and is a great addition to the ever growing HCC community. It is open source and fairly easy to learn.  Most graphic designers are already familiar with the underlying languages behind D3 such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript so picking it up should not be difficult. Any graphic designer or analyst who wants to stick out from the rest, impress their boss or just be creative in their job should adapt D3.
